Puppy Headstart

Our Puppy Headstart program covers all the basic obedience commands leading towards working with distractions with the goal of off leash control by the end of Puppy Headstart 2. Another very important part of this program focuses on body awareness, conditioning, confidence building and problem solving which uses special equipment built for this purpose. Pups are introduced to it in Puppy Headstart 1 and by the end of Headstart 2, you and your pup have also sampled some of our dog sport class skills.

Acceptable collars for Headstart Puppy 1 and Puppy 2:
The only collars that are acceptable for the puppy programs are the following:
A well fitted plain buckle collar made either of fabric or leather
Martingale collar either of leather or fabric
Head halter, non specific brand
Body harness that does not interfere with the free natural movement of pup.

Please note: No special training collars such as chain, prongs, or electric collars will be allowed in the puppy program. Speciality collars may be used in some of the obedience classes, but our goal is to train your dogs self control and easy walking without the use of such collars.

Reactive Dog Class I

Innovative and Unique Program only offered at The Red Barn Event Centre.
Is your dog out of control when you go for a walk? Does your dog bark and lunge at other dogs or people? Does your dog ignore you when other dogs are around or when they are off leash? Are you embarrassed or frustrated by your dog's reaction to new dogs, new people, visitors to your home or by their unruly behaviour on a walk?
Let us help you! We can help you calm the chaos!
We can show you how to help your dog remain calm and collected in the face of whatever distractions may be currently triggering your dog into a frenzy.
We will guide you safely every step of the way towards a calmer dog who can be at ease around other dogs and/or people without losing their minds or becoming reactive. Enjoy your walks again! Have people over to your house again and confidently take your dog with you when visiting others.
If it was as simple as correcting your dog or distracting your dog with treats you wouldn't be having these issues. We understand why your dog is displaying these behaviours, and we know how to change them and can show you how to effectively change your dog's behaviour as well.
We have the experience, knowledge and desire to help you and your dog!

This class is for anyone who has completed Reactive Dog Class I and would like to have some fun while continuing to improve their skills.
After all the hard work laying a solid foundation in Reactive Dog Class I, it's time to have some serious fun. We continue to practice "real world" walking with increasing challenges and distractions, as well as perfect your dog's recall in highly stimulating environments.

Now that you dog is able to be around other dogs and people without losing their mind, we can have fun working on things such as nose work games, fungility, impulse control games, and do lots of "real world" practice walking about.
Topics worked on will include, but are not limited to, perfecting your dog's manners when visitors come to the home, getting your dog to come when called no matter the distraction, getting your dog to settle down and be calm on cue when you need them to be, as well as other skills appropriate for the students in the class.
