"It's Your Choice"

Teaching a young puppy to take responsibility for making their own choices is one of the most important lessons they can learn. The "It's Your Choice" game is the foundation exercise that teaches the puppy that the only way to receive a desirable cookie is to make the decision to wait until given permission to eat it.

Reward Zone

The "Reward Zone" is the area immediately beside you in which you would like your puppy to walk while on a leash. Take a peek at this video as Danielle LeVangie teaches a young puppy the first lesson in identifying the Reward Zone.

Making Collar Touches Fun!

We need to take our dog's collars for so many reasons throughout their lives -- whether to clip on a leash, or hold onto them in a gentle manner. Teaching your puppy to associate the "collar grab" with delicious cookies and plenty of praise is an important life lesson!

Scent Detection Intro

Got nose? We all know our dog's noses are far more sensitive than our own. Scent Detection classes channel your dog's sense of smell in a popular sport that is the fun and competitive version of police detection dog training. In this video, join Karen as she trains the first step of the dog's indication on an odour source using a coin in place of the odour box.

Targeting

Join dog trainer and Agility judge Billie McLean for a lesson in "targeting". Teaching your dog to touch your hand, or a small disc on the ground, is an important foundation skill used in more advanced behaviours for a variety of sports (including Agility "contact" obstacles). It is also a cute trick and a great way to connect with your dog before performing an activity together, as a team.

Trade Game

Dogs are naturally curious and will often pick up garbage or other objects while on a walk, at the park, or in your home. Teaching your dog to willingly offer an object of value is an important skill, both for their safety and as a stepping stone when training more advanced behaviours.

Nose Targeting - Part 1

Target training is used to refocus the dog's attention away from a distraction, show them the desired positioning of their body for formal obedience or trick training, and as a foundation toward a stopped contact behaviour in the sport of dog Agility. This video is the first in a two-part series on the topic of nose targeting.

5-Minute Trainer

Nose Targeting - Part 2

Target training is an important step in teaching your dog to stop at the bottom of the "contact obstacles" (dogwalk, teeter and a-frame). In this video we transfer the nose-touch on your hand to a metal dish that can then be placed away from the handler.

5-Minute Trainer

Left and Right Directional Cues

In the sport of agility there are times the dog is ahead of the handler, unable to see their body positioning or arm signals. Having solid "right" and "left" directional cues allows the handler to easily communicate the direction of the dog's next turn.
